Software Auditing
Surprise Infringement
CompuSleuth conducted an inventory of the contents of 35 corporate computer workstations. It was discovered that several employees had loaded personal software onto their company-owned computers. Further review of the audit results revealed copies of software for which the company did not possess proper licensure. Despite the fact that the company was unaware of the unlicensed software, both civil and criminal penalties could have been incurred for each copy discovered.
